Kazakhstan citizens do not need a visa for a short trip to Russia. Adults may cross the border with a valid Kazakhstan passport or national identity card. Check the document’s validity and condition in advance, and keep a photo or copy separately from the original.
For a child under 16, the official guidance permits a birth certificate or Kazakhstan passport. If the child is not travelling with both parents, confirm consent requirements in advance and carry proof of relationship, particularly when surnames differ.
A migration card is issued on entry. Check the spelling of your name, entry date and purpose of travel, then keep the card until departure: it proves lawful temporary stay and may be needed for migration registration.
Visa-free stays for Kazakhstan citizens are limited to a total of 90 calendar days per calendar year. Migration registration is generally not required for stays of up to 30 calendar days; a longer stay requires registration at the place of residence.
From 1 July 2026, the Gosuslugi RuID app is mandatory for Kazakhstan citizens entering Russia for work or study: a profile and entry application must be completed at least 72 hours in advance. Submission is voluntary for private or tourist trips, but check the latest rules before departure.
Arrange medical insurance for the entire trip and carry regular medication in its original packaging with a prescription or medical letter. Emergency care is available for life-threatening conditions, but planned treatment and additional expenses may be chargeable.
Prepare a payment method that works in Russia and carry a small amount of roubles. Visa and Mastercard cards issued by Kazakhstan banks generally do not work in Russia. Keep documents, money, your phone and charger in your hand luggage.
Check restrictions on medicines, food and other goods before travelling. Do not carry harmala or adyraspan: Russia classifies the plant as a prohibited narcotic-containing substance. Always verify final requirements against current government notices.
